Who should read this?

Staff and students who use the Google Chrome web browser

What is happening?

Google is currently rolling out a software update for Google Chrome version 80+ that is affecting browser cookies (bits of information from websites visited, that are stored on your computer). This is having a down-stream impact on staff and student applications that use Single Sign-On (SSO), for example: FinanceOne, eStudent).

When trying to access applications that are not part of the curtin.edu.au domain, two minutes after initial login to the Staff Portal, SSO may fail, causing the Curtin Staff Portal login page to re-load.

Digital & Technology Solutions is working on resolving this issue as a priority.

What services are being affected?

The following services may be impacted by this issue when Google Chrome is used as the web browser. This includes:

  • FinanceOne
  • eStudent
  • eApplications
  • eAcademic

 

What do I need to do?

If you use Google Chrome and experience the issue described above, we recommend using a different browser (like Microsoft Edge). It is anticipated that other browsers (eg. Microsoft Edge and Mozilla Firefox) will be rolling out the same update later this year.

Note: You will need to close the browser and reopen it for it to be effective.

Digital & Technology Solutions is currently investigating solutions to this issue.

Further updates will be provided until it is resolved. In the meantime, please use the workarounds recommended above.

 

Scheduled Outages

Curtin Information Technology Services (CITS) seeks to enable a secure and reliable computing environment. In order to ensure this, regular scheduled maintenance is essential.

Maintenance allows Curtin's systems and applications to be updated, tested and changed to ensure continued vendor support, compliancy with relevant legislation and audit, redundancy and service continuity.

Service Availability Turnitin Service Interruption

Services affected: Other Services
Dates and times: Saturday, 1 August 2020 11:00PM until Sunday, 2 August 2020 5:00AM
Impact: Unavailable due to scheduled maintenance
Status: Scheduled Maintenance
Notes:

This maintenance will be performed by Turnitin and there will be a temporary disruption to services. 

 

Users will be unable to submit, grade or access the service during this maintenance window.  All other services (Blackboard, Collaborate) will not be affected.
